‘Waiting for Wednesday’ by Nicci French (Frieda Klein # 3)

People are binge watching Netflix like never before. The additional screen time seems a good trade-off for combating isolation and escaping from bad news, (although we do end up watching other kinds of bad news like crime). 🙂

This series by a husband and wife team of authors reads like Netflix. There is an ongoing creepy thread that started in the first book (Blue Monday) that I suspect won’t be resolved until the finale (Day of the Dead). This was ‘over the hump day’ and I’m eager to get through Thursday next, and then get on to the weekend and the finale.

Frieda Klein, a brilliant reclusive psychotherapist, is the main character. She was severely injured in the last instalment and you’d think she would stick to speaking to people in her office now, instead of attempting to solve crime in the city of London. She can’t help herself and we expect nothing less, now that we know her. Of course by now her supporting cast of characters are all familiar as well, Josef most endearing of all.

This instalment begins with a shocking domestic murder that begs the question, “who could ever do such a thing” but as the story progresses and secrets unfold, there is an uncanny list of suspects that emerges after all.

  1. I loved these Freida Klein mysteries and have an addiction to them. Something like eating chocolate chip cookies or potato chips. Am now starting the weekend books. Mystery as yet unresolved from Blue Monday.

    • Thanks for your note Karen! I totally agree about the addictive quality of this series. Frieda Klein is such an interesting protagonist and Josef always brings some comic relief! If you are feeling bereft after the series is over, you might like William Kent Krueger’s crime series too. It starts with Iron Lake. I’ve only read two in the series so far but I’m hooked on it. William Kent Krueger wrote Ordinary Grace and This Tender Land, they are good too! Cheers, Joanne
