Here’s a heartwarming book for Jeopardy! fans. Alex Trebek is a household name in North America, indeed, perhaps even a nightly guest at your dinner table! Trebek died last year of pancreatic cancer at the age of 80, and this is his autobiography which might be fun for anyone interested in some background to the show or to its long time host of 36 years.
Alex Trebek started his life in Sudbury, Ontario and it’s interesting to trace his journey to hosting one of the most popular game shows of all time. He had a sense of humour, a knack for kindness and making the contestants feel at ease, a smooth reading voice, and humility. He made a point of being referred to as the host, not the star. He insisted that the contestants were the stars of the show. In his personal life he was a man of faith, a generous philanthropist and celebrity donor for World Vision, and a devoted husband and father. He was dedicated to serving others and even the proceeds of this book will be going to charity. He wanted his fans to be able to know a bit more about the show’s mechanics and strategies, funniest moments, and some favourite stories of behind-the-scenes bloopers and successes. Did he achieve that? The answer is…Yes!
