‘Watching You’ by Lisa Jewell

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Picture a lovely row of painted houses, up on a hill overlooking a town in England. These are some of the nicest houses in the city and are home to doctors and lawyers and smack of old money. It’s not the kind of place you would expect to find someone murdered in their own kitchen. But it is the sort of place where everyone has a secret, and there are plenty of people peeking from behind their curtains, carefully watching each other.

Lisa Jewell writes family drama suspense novels. She’s a good storyteller and her books are a sure thing for me if I am looking for an immersive page turner. I usually keep up with her latest (although I’m behind by two) and am also slowly working on her backlist, which is quite extensive.

It’s usually the type of suspense where you are tracking a number of characters, some of whom are definitely creepy, and you wonder who is reliable and who is not. With this one I had figured out the ‘who’ pretty early on but not the ‘why’ until nearly the end. The clues are there, you just have to ‘watch’ for them!
