“It’s Ok That You’re Not Ok: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture That Doesn’t Understand’ by Megan Devine

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This is an excellent book on grief.

Grief is not a problem to be solved, it is a pain to be tended to and a mystery to be honoured. Grief is not a disease to be cured or a stage to move beyond. “Grief is simply love in its most wild and painful form,” says the author. “It’s a natural and sane response to loss.” Grief doesn’t get better, it gets different. People who grieve have a right to be supported in compassionate and meaningful ways, but somehow our culture has often misunderstood the best ways to do this.

This short video captures Devine’s gentle but radical insight into grief that makes this book so helpful–it’s about acknowledgement:

  1. I need to add this book to resources on grief and loss. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
