‘The Lazy Genius Way: Embrace What Matters, Ditch What Doesn’t, and Get Stuff Done’ by Kendra Adachi

“You are loved. You are seen. You are enough. Being a Lazy Genius is not about doing more or doing less. It’s about doing what matters to you.”

This book is perfect for, and mostly about, families with small children, but offers perspective for anyone (but you’ll have to put up with ‘little kid’ examples). Self-help books can be hugely discouraging because they often recommend far-out life changes that are overwhelming and not sustainable and have nothing to do with you. They can lead you to judge yourself and compare with others. This is not that.

Kendra Adachi  offers 13 simple Lazy Genius principles that can be applied to any or all situations. “Be a Genius about the things that matter, and Lazy about the things that don’t.” You get to choose what matters and what doesn’t–there’s no ‘one size fits all.’ Her simple principles are never the same when you apply them because they are unique to you. And forget about lofty goals or noble new year’s resolutions or someone else’s way of doing something. Those inevitably lead to failure and feeling even worse about yourself. Build simple systems with small steps around what matters most to you and be as kind to yourself as you are to others. This books is simple, helpful, life affirming, and practical. Adachi is unapologetic about her faith (because it matters to her) and the book has a forward by Emily P. Freeman, author of The Next Right Thing.

Kendra Adachi also has a podcast and a blog and she is on Instagram. My only criticism is that she mostly refers to moms/women, whereas there are a lot of dads/men on the frontlines of busy lives with little kids too!!
