‘Canada Reads 2022’ – ‘and the winner is…’ but NO spoilers, just links!

This was the most powerful and very best Canada Reads I have ever watched. Wow! I am blown away by the significant discussions as well as the maturity and thoughtfulness of the celebrities. It was a very impressive debate this year, seeking to find the one book every Canadian should read.

In order not to give any spoilers and to encourage people to watch this year’s debate, I will not reveal the winner. Below are the links to the episodes. I do hope they are accessible to you wherever you are in the world.

The defenders were so gracious and respectful in presenting arguments and promoting their own books. But all of the celebrities were also exceptionally articulate and knowledgeable about all of the other books! Very measured and reasoned, they would often provide detailed examples from the other books and were very insightful and articulate in all of their contributions. Of course, they stood their ground when they had to respectfully disagree with something in order to defend their own title, but again, it was done with such grace and empathy. There was serious conversation but also a sprinkling of humour. In keeping with the theme of connection, the debaters excelled at connecting well with each other, and all of the books were promoted as high calibre books well worth reading.

The celebrities also spoke and shared in a way that will no doubt promote the love of reading in general. I loved the part where Mark proudly waves his new library card and proclaims this process has gotten him reading again!

Well done Canada Reads! I am always proud of you, but this year more than ever!
