‘Going Zero’ by Anthony McCarten

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Two hours to vanish. One chance to escape. Zero alternatives.

Already optioned for a TV series, this debut novel was such a fun ride. It makes sense that the author is an award winning screenwriter and I’m looking forward to seeing it on the screen.

Here’s the premise: Ten Americans have been selected to test a high-tech surveillance system. If they can successfully evade detection for 30 days, they’ll win a cool three million, tax-free. Kaitlyn Day, a lowly librarian, is of course the most underestimated contestant. As a reader it was easy to root for her when she becomes the surprisingly smart front-runner in the contest! However, there’s more to the story and Kaitlyn has her own motivation to be in the race.

Cyber-technothriller is not my usual go-to, and even though this book won’t win any literary awards, I found it to be entertainingly plot driven but also quite thought provoking! It’s a good book for our time.
